Kinesic Legal Humanities
What role does the body – and its movements, postures, and gestures – play in learning and practicing legal reasoning? This talk will explore this question, including considering the ancient roots of the recognition of embodiment in Greek and Roman rhetorical pedagogy, before turning to how the simulation of movement, gesture, and posture plays a crucial role in English common law reasoning, from the early modern period through to the twentieth century.
